Water treatment works are sensitive zones. Some are producing potable water for human consumption. Others process the used product to safely return it to the environment.
Either way, they involve significant volumes of concrete. And furthermore that concrete is placed at heightened risk of deterioration, due to the chemicals and contaminants carried by untreated water. For potable water works, any treatment must be certified safe for such requirements.
MARKHAM were tasked with providing a waterproofing and durability enhancement system for the new concrete RGF and SUTW tanks at Oswestry Water Treatment Works.
This was to enhance the durability and increase the lifespan of these structures and, probably most importantly, protect the concrete against soft water attack; this is a particular challenge affecting concrete structures in this area.
